Two Days With Mari: City Color & Forest Light

Some sessions are an hour. Mari's was a whole story — two days, two completely different worlds, and one young woman who owned every single frame.

Day 1: Miami Wynwood Arts District

We started surrounded by color — a mural-covered district where every wall is a canvas. Mari came ready: a burnt-orange maxi dress flowing against graffiti and pink walls, then a black top and white skirt with knee-high boots in a parking lot (yes, a parking lot — give me good light and an interesting corner and I'll make it fashion), then a black look with a wide-brimmed hat that might be my favorite portrait of the whole two days.

As the sun dropped, so did the pace. We found a gray Dodge Challenger with its headlights glowing for a full-length shot with the orange gown, then got Mari into a flowing red dress, standing in calm water as the sky went pastel.

And then the day ended the way it should: Mari in a royal blue ball gown on a palm-lined brick path at dusk, family gathered around her — and one quiet frame, a kiss on her forehead, that says everything about what this session meant to all of them.

Day 2: Tree Tops Park

Day two traded street art for oak trees. The same royal blue gown — glittering this time, with a tiara — but now under massive mossy oaks and across a wooden boardwalk, half the frames in rich color, half in timeless black and white.

And because Mari doesn't do anything halfway, the looks kept coming: a white top and jeans with a statement belt, a brown leather jacket and tan hat, a red sequin gown (with a straw hat, because why not), a red gown with a mirror prop, a dark patterned dress on a mossy boulder, a cream jumpsuit on the bridge, and a black evening gown to close it out.

The weather even joined in — a rain-darkened path, a black umbrella, and at the very end, dramatic red light washing over banyan roots behind her black gown. Sometimes the conditions you don't plan write the best scenes.

Why two days?

Because nobody relaxes in the first ten minutes. Two days meant Mari got to be a fashion model in the city on day one and a fairytale in the forest on day two — over 240 photos, a dozen looks, and a gallery that feels like a magazine feature instead of a photo session.
